Take Time to Answer Your Child’s Questions
by Minister Delita Johnson
Children have inquisitive minds. Having an inquisitive mind is one of their mechanisms of learning. And boy, are some children more inquiring than others. As adults we need to be patient and understanding with our children by taking time to stop and answer their questions. Curious minds want to know. It’s better that information your child receives comes from you, as the parent, rather than their friends or someone else who does not share the same beliefs and morals as you do.
I used to have two ways in which I had decided to answer my children’s questions which were, “I’m the adult, and Because I said so”. I learned very quickly that this was not the best approach to answering questions that my children needed real answers to. Children deserve a legitimate answer. They are little human beings that deserve respect. Don’t make them feel uncomfortable and afraid to come to you.
A question, with the proper answer allows your child to mature and to learn. Remember, they are soon to become adults and this is one of the ways they gain knowledge.

Read Luke 2:41-52
Jesus was only twelve years old when He was found in the temple with some pretty intelligent Jewish teachers. He sat and talked to them, listened to them and even asked them questions. His desire was to know His father.
Prayerfully, your child will have a desire to be just like Jesus. Jesus amazed the Jewish leaders with how much He knew, and likewise, your child will amaze you and others with how much they know. |
