How To Get The Most Out of Your Bible Study
- Choose a Bible that is the most accurate with regards to the original Greek and Hebrew texts.
- Choose as authoritative, only the Bible which has 66 books that were God-inspired by 40 authors. All other versions may have literary value, however they are not the infallible Word of God.
- Avoid any materials, books, or people that claim to hold equal or greater authority with the Bible.
- Exercise caution when reading extra-biblical material.
- Use online Bible study aids, such as the Blue Letter Bible.
- Avoid Bible translations which have definite sectarian bias.
- Do some brushing up on the different approaches to Bible study.
- Set aside time for morning devotions and meditate on God's Word.
- Set aside some time each week for in-depth studies.
- Develop a system of note taking so that you can recall your notes.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to open your understanding.
- Try to develop the attitude and mind of Christ while interpreting scripture.
- Listen to the opinion of trusted ministries and committed Christians, however test everything by the Word of God.
- Recognize that the Bible is counter-cultural as it applies to society at large, and expect to be challenged.
- Focus on the simple truths first.
- Never diminish the value of traditional Christian doctrine in the formulation of your Christian world-view.
- Have fun and dig deep!
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
Who Helps You Understand?
The Holy Spirit will never contradict Himself, any Person of the Godhead, or the Bible. An important question to answer when discerning what others claim to be of the Holy Spirit, is whether their teaching, belief structures, or personal fruit are consistent with The Holy Spirit's character and the Bible. The Holy Spirit never has a challenge interpreting Himself. But mankind has a continual challenge when interpreting the Holy Spirit. This is why the Holy Bible is so important to our lives and the Holy Spirit will always tell you the truth. But man cannot consistently do so, unless inspired by the Holy Spirit, through the proper handling of the Word of Truth, and with the mind of Christ.
